FlowerMart Moves to Bayview
The corner parcel at 610 Brannan Street was sold to Kilroy Realty earlier this year, and they have plans for a huge Flower Mart that is 3 towers tall (up to 250-feet tall), 10,000 square feet of ground-level retail space for vendors, and an underground market for Flower Mart’s wholesale business.
The project is ambitious. In addition to the 115,000-square-foot replacement Mart, the project as proposed, and recently submitted to Planning for review, includes 46,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space (10,000 square feet of which would be for the Mart’s retailers around two 17,000-square-foot plazas), and nearly 1.5 million square feet of space for office use.
But with San Francisco’s Central SOMA development plans underway involving a development at 4th and Harrison and at 725 Harrison Street, and the additional 7,500 units of housing and office spaces for up to 45,000 additional workers in Folsom, 2nd, Townsend and 6th Streets (see gray areas below):
Kilroy’s Flower Mart will temporarily relocate to the northern edge of Bayview at 2000 Marin St. The 2000 Marin Street parcel which measures nearly 8-acres and fronts Cesar Chavez between Evans and I-280 is the former site of a printing facility for the San Francisco Chronicle. The site will be demolished and a temporary 115,000-square-foot Flower Mart facility will rise upon the site.
